September 14, 2008. Shea Stadium, NY The Mets front office just called and demanded we move Bleacherfest to April. That’s because the Mets dropped their 5th straight Bleacherfest, once again in devastating, dramatic fashion, giving up 5 runs in the 9th. But not even a crushing loss played in sweltering heat could spoil the real big winners of the day – JDRF and Alzheimer's Research – as the event raised over $5000 for these worthy charities. In the end, we had over 130 family and friends in attendance, the food was plentiful, the raffle was a hit, the ices cooled us off, and some of the kids got to run the bases after the game, so other than the scoreboard results, it was a great day at Shea! News and notes: Since it's inception, Stecklow.com Bleacherfest has raised over $25,000 for charity. David Wright had his second multi-HR Bleacherfest, his first was in 06. The last time the Mets won Bleacherfest was in 2003, Jason Phillips was the cleanup hitter and Jeremy Griffiths was the winning pitcher. Mets are now 2-6 all-time in Bleacherfest games. This was the last Bleacherfest at Shea, stay tuned for 2009 CitiField Bleacherfest news, fingers crossed we can get something done.
